A 35-year-old woman has died after she was hit by a truck in Etobicoke on Thursday morning, police say.

Officers responded to a collision in the intersection of Islington Avenue and Dixon Road shortly after 9 a.m., Toronto police said in a news release on Thursday.

Police said emergency personnel tried to save her life, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the release, police said a 26-year-old man was driving a white Ford truck southbound on Islington Avenue and making a right turn to travel westbound on Dixon Road, when he struck the woman. She was crossing Dixon Road from the north to the south side.

Earlier, Duty Insp. Peter Wallace told reporters in a news conference that it was his understanding that the woman was walking in a crosswalk when she was hit.

“Our thoughts are with the family. This is an unfortunate and tragic incident,” he said.
